Researching Your Scots-Irish and Irish Ancestors
Many people believe that researching Irish ancestors is impossible because of the destruction of the Public Record Office in 1922. While many records were destroyed, others survived and large collections have come online in recent years.
Join Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt from the Ulster Historical Foundation during their annual United States lecture tour (the first since March 2020) to learn how to get the most out of Irish resources and records, gain strategies for breaking down brick walls, and grasp important historical context that may help fill in gaps in your research.
A number of the workshops will be offered by the hosts as hybrid events, with participants being able to attend in-person or as a virtual guest (online). In the same way, the speakers will be presenting in a hybrid manner, with one speaker in-person, Fintan Mullan, and one speaker virtually, Gillian Hunt.
As many of the in-person events planned for the tour will be observing social distancing for those in attendance the room capacity at some venues will be lower than pre-Covid. We recommend you register early to be sure of your place if you would like to attend the workshops in person.
The presenters and hosts are aware that Covid might disrupt plans for the in-person attendance, but we are working together to prepare contingencies so that if it becomes necessary that programmes might go ahead as virtual events only, but crucially they will go ahead.
Whether you are just beginning your Irish research or have been at it for years, you won’t want to miss these workshops!
